Getting Devices out to those in need

It has been a busy couple of weeks for us at Laptops4Learning, and we are delighted to be able to donate devices to a number of organisations to help those in need

Last week we delivered 16 Chromebooks to Leeds United Football Club as a donation for the Afghan Ladies Football Team and their families. This group was brought from Afghanistan to build a new life in the UK, a move coordinated by Valeria Ignarra of Play for Change and Khalida Popal, former captain of the Afghan Ladies Football Team. Providing devices for the team has been handled by Preeti Shetty, CEO of Upshot and Non-Executive Director of Brentford Football Club, who contacted Laptops4Learning to see if we could help. We were able to use devices repurposed from redundant tech made available by Covéa Insurance in Halifax. These amazing Afghan women have been through so much and we earnestly hope that they can rebuild their lives in safety here in the UK.

This week started with a donation of 10 Chromebooks to the New Horizons team at CHS Group in Cambridge. CHS Group run a range of services across Cambridgeshire offering people opportunities to achieve a better quality of life, with their New Horizons team helping those who are not in work with coaching on money, getting online and moving closer to employment. Some of these devices have now gone to help single parent families, and those with severe anxiety and depression who find it difficult to go out. Having a device available at home means that they can get online, keep in touch with others, apply for jobs, and it can also be used by the children.

We were especially pleased this week to announce our formal partnership with Community Group, who specialise in forming and operating community departments for sports clubs, helping them to maximise their community engagement. Having already encountered Community Group through work we did repurposing devices for Richmond Rugby during the pandemic, this partnership means that we can jointly scale up our work to reach more of the disadvantaged in our society. This has now led to us donating 10 laptops to Fylde Rugby Community Foundation as Christmas presents for disadvantaged children in the Fylde. We hope that this will bring a little Christmas happiness and look forward to doing much more through our partnership with Community Group.

It is fantastic that we have been able to help these groups, but there is so much more to be done. The needs out there are very great – help us to do more by letting us repurpose your redundant tech for social good.
